Looking at getting a trailed chopper for next winter as more sheds going up.

What's best/best value. What goes wrong with them. How easy are they to unblock.

Suggest away folks

Got a Lucas castor 60 here. Good machine. Had a KV832 before also a good machine but the Lucas is miles ahead. Only thing we've had to replace on the Lucas is the bed chains and sprockets after a few years use on straw, round bale silage and also clamp silage.

They are no bother if used solely for straw. Get the leccy controls and fully mounted if you tractor is man enough.

Keep the blades up together and never use the back door to squeeze a bale into the rotors that is how you get a shearbolt go.

I personally put lots of bales of straw through a trailed teagle good and iffy straw. Never an issue. During the summer have it in the workshop to check bed chains and blades.

They dont like too much road work when laden.

We boughttheMcHale 460 trailed bedder this year as our old Teagle was getting tired!
We will put 25 Large Heston bales of straw through it a week and so far we are extremely happy with how it has coped wjth alot of the wet heavy straw we have this year!

Bought a Kuhn this year we never had anything else before but it seems a good machine
Try not to rush and do something dull like having the bed going flat out when you put a new bale in and you won't block It!

Neighbours bought a teagle, fell to bits after a few years. They came to see ours and now have a Kuhn. They only use for straw as well.
Operator must be to blame for a machine to fall to bits spreading straw?! Had a teagle 8100 for 3 years now and only broken one shear bolt this year with some real sh** straw. Not saying it’s better than other makes but had no reason not to buy it. And it’s british!!;)

Have a look at this thread .......

https://thefarmingforum.co.uk/index.php?threads/lucas-castor-versus-mchale-c460.205346/

...... and you will see why i bought a McHale over a Lucas.
Machine working well and an absolute dream with straw.
The design of the McHale tailboard holds in a cut bale of straw much better than the Lucas which seems to need two posts and a chain!
Probably won't be feeding much silage with it here. All clamped stuff and the few bales we have get fed to cows with teeth so can't see the point in chopping them :censored:
