£90/ ton simple

Not a hope in hell of it being that expensive off the field.

Because that would put it delivered on farm at £130t and at that money farmers will not buy more than the odd load and wait until the winter to buy the rest.

£130t is totally unsustainable for livestock producers.

I think that there is a lot more realism out there in the arable world into how much it costs to remove straw and replace nutrients with bought in fert and or organic matter not to mention the possible effects on timeliness and damage to soil structure. Im thinking there is a slight lack of awareness/ understanding of this in some quarters Personally the crops we have in the ground for harvest 2018 that were sown on time in time look a lot better than the bit that was sold as straw in the swath and we were albeit only slightly held up, but at £150T of grain with a possible 1/2 t yield loss before the above mentioned fert and organic matter cant see a lot more coming forward from the chop as we go chaps in fact probably less

how many attendees/end users at auctions stop to think how much it costs to spread, row up if bad weather, then or not as the case may be bale load team and stack( edited to explain the term team in these parts mean tip/unload &haul to stack)

if they wait while winter it may not be there (see above) despite your opinion that crops look well. In other areas things are different in terms of growth stage and straw potential yield which is now apparent at least here .though as yet grain yield is still all to play for
