Strimmer cord

Is there such a thing as decent strimmer cord?

I have a Stihl straight shaft strimmer, forget the actual model but its a decent one.

Currently tried using both round and square plastic cord but get fed up with it breaking righ by the drum meaning I have to take the drum out to re feed the cord through the guides.

Strimmer is only two years old and the guides are smooth with no sharp edges, I try and keep a decent length on the cord but about 5 times this afternoon one or both ends break right at the guides.

Are these replacement heads with heavy duty plastic any good?

Depends what your doing, but for weed whacking after getting one of these, swore I would never go back to cord:

Yeah I did wonder about a blade but am cutting around the base of trees and caravans in our CL site and around stored caravans in our outside compound.

I was at a similar situation a while ago, fed up with tiny crappy strimmer wire. Tried odd stuff that require special heads and came back to an auto feed head in the end. The knifes are useless to me as I only really use it to trim around stuff that you don't want a piece of iron wacking into. I experimented with wire thickness and now quite happily use 4 mm yellow wire from kramp. I can wack off 1.5 cm branched quite nicely. Yes it breaks off in the head and welds onto itself sometimes (mostly when I use it on stuff that really needs a blade) but I can free it without needing tools quite well.

I use a blade generally but if you need to use line for strimming around things try leaving your roll of line soaking in a bucket of water prior to filling the reel. My supplier reckons it makes a real difference as the line is less brittle so doesn't snap so easily.

Stihl poly cut is very good..

But what you're after is one of these

load it with silly string and when you need a bit more just twonk it on the ground and it'll feed more string. If you feed too much it nips it off on the cutter in the guard. Excellent tool.

yes I have an auto cut head. But it’s still cuts the cord at the guides and then you have to Dick around getting the cord out of the head.

These are good aswell, they are easy load so you can fill with cord without taking it apart and they are bump feed.
