Strimmer Fuel Tank & Pipes

I've a Ryobi multi tool strimmer that hasn't been used for some years and I'm getting it ready to sell. I found that the original fuel pipes, which were of a rubber type, had become brittle and they broke up when touched. They would have self sealed against the holes drilled in the tank.

I obtained some new pipe from a garden machinery place, but that is plastic. It wouldn't squeeze through the original holes, so I had to drill them out. The trouble is that the fuel leaks out around the pipes.

What could I put on the tank around the pipes that that would form a petrol proof seal?

Your mistake was in drilling the holes out. The plastic pipe has to be forced through the holes and if it is the correct size to begin with, will go through.
No offence meant, but is an old Ryobi worth selling?
I realise that it would have been better to have been able to get the pipes in but they have a lot less give in them than the originals. The strimmer has never had much use and some of the attachments ( the full set) have never been used.

So, what would be a good sealant?

I think you'll have to drill larger holes & use rubber/nitrile grommets? Perhaps one large hole & a blind grommet, then cut holes just smaller than the pipe OD.

A sealant won't work as the tank will always be expanding and contracting.
This is an alternative and also found on other Japanese engines...Drill one bigger hole and force it in.

I too think you’ll have to put some sort of grommet in to sort the problem. No sealant I can think of could do the job you need, especially if you’re expecting to sell it.

next time cut the end of the pipe diagonally so you can start it through the hole and haul it through. It is supposed to be mega tight.
