Sumo DTS

Rear press wheels are too small and will bung up with mud. Not much space between leading tine and seeding coulter. No split hopper option. No intermediate press wheel. My gut reaction was that I prefer the Mzuri Pro-till

I liked the look of the DTS, having coulter close behind the leading tine ought to mean less trash blocking issues I'd have thought. The cutting disc was useful.

To be honest now that Mzuri and sumo have a drill that requires circa 50hp/m and they both have contour following coulters, I would have thought claydons have a bit of catching up to do. I'd just like to see the undrilled bands a little bit narrower on them myself.

Yes that fuel comparison chart is a bit out of date Elmstead, but still quite relevant. Fuel usage for our demo rig for this spring, which consisted of a 6m DTS plus John Deere 7230R has ranged from 8ltrs/ha to 15ltrs/ha depending on drill set up, leg depth etc and soil type. When used on a min til seedbed or ploughed and power harrowed seed bed fuel figures went down to around 6/7ltrs/ha. I usually work out fuel figures from the tank in the yard, as i find the tractors own computers are usually wildly optomistic.

Intermediate press wheels work, but not in anything other than dry conditions, we felt it was more important to design independant coulter units that follow ground contours accurately. That then does not limit working width of the machine, the 12m will work equally as well as the mounted 3m regardless of ground conditions.

This field was drilled on 16-10-12, at 185kgs/ha and was probably one of the wettest we did last year (no blockages (y)) , so this is how it is looking now:-

The earlier drilled crops are tillering well belaying the worries of the farmers involved and the retained soiled structure of the strip til system, meant earlier travelling on DTS'd fields with sprayer, fert etc compaired to neighbouring more traditional systems.

Here some spring barley drilled on 3-4-13 at 180kg/ha directly into stubble, picture taken 10 days ago;

This gives you an idea of the contour following abillity of the DTS, we drilled beans on the stubble and then continued on to a small area of ploughing. The sowing depth is not affected.

Leading opener disc to slit a clean slot for the following ripper leg and cut trash, ripper leg busting a tilled strip down to 12" if required. Dutch openers low draught double shoot tips are a very reliable method of placing seed without 'ploughing' the soil. Adjustable covering discs and v form staggered press wheels we found were the only way to seal the rip line and firm the seed row.

Marv.Went past the factory tonight and saw a DTS parked, with a Chafer tank on the front.Are you experimenting with liquid fert on this machine?

The 3m is the mounted machine for smaller tractors, the 4m is trailed for probably 180hp+. We will have both of these models on display at the Cereals event this year, along with an 8m DTS on the working plot. :)
New information will also available as we are working on a new brochure for the DTS that will be ready for Cereals.

Are prices available for the 3m mounted model?

What sort of power requirement is it?
