The prime minister is set to hold crisis talks, dubbed the "Sunak Summit", with supermarket bosses and farmers in Westminster on May 16 following calls for the government to address the inflationary impacts of food production, according to the Grocer.

Will anyone be attending? If so, what are the talks about, what does the invite say...

the inflationary impacts of food production,

The inflation isn't in the production.
It is in the distribution: transport, refrigeration, packaging etc. It is an inflationary impact that is only being felt because the centralized, just-in-time food chain we have today is so fossil fuel dependent.

Will the 'farmer reps' at this event be pointing that out ? Will they feck. Pound to a penny it is the NFU. Briefed what to say by the cartel beforehand. What a mess.

I read a comment on face book that made me think 🤔 “ a rising tide floats all boats”. A healthy agricultural industry in the uk would do a hell of a good the farmers spend when they earn , just needs a tweek here n their to help the progressive farmer earn good money the trickle down i to the rural economy would be great 😊

Correct me if I’m wrong but gas price is back to prewar level.
The price we as farmers receive for wheat is half what it was at the peak.
So the question I as a farmer would be asking is why the retail price of food hasn’t fallen markedly. I suspect the answer to that is blatant profiteering by everyone involved in food production beyond the farm gate.

Going stupid.
Plus as stated, Tesco own them, Makro, Premier stores etc etc and carve the job up allegedly?
Where all small stores were opposition to them now they all work for them??
They also get "preferential" product prices compared to other independent retails buying there allegedly too.😡

Think we all know the outcome, dunno why they’re bothering with a meeting.

Tesco et al; We’ll "work with" our suppliers to "limit the impact" of food inflation. We’ll do everything we can to make sure customers achieve the lowest possible price while safeguarding our suppliers’ livelihoods.

Translated; We’ll hammer our suppliers down on price (we’ve been doing that for a while now), thereby driving any remaining profitability out of the farming system, ensuring that the next food supply crisis will come round sooner and be more inflationary again. But right now we’ll keep prices in our shops up as long as we can to grift the maximum extra margin that‘s been made possible by a confluence of events that has fallen into our laps, enabling us to take the utter p1ss out of everyone. Bp and Shell are following our business model now, even they’re impressed at how we do this on an ongoing basis.

Sunak; righto everyone, thanks very much. Therese, how can we get our farmers to stop emitting carbon?
