Just put on another thread seen my first tonight in south Shropshire, 6 days in front of last year .If the cuckoo is true to form he should be shouting in 12 days time give or take a couple of days each way

If you have swallows look after them.
2 years ago we had loads, last year a few, so far this year none.
Sheds are all the same , plenty of nesting sites, but something has changed, I'm sad to say.

Some turned up yesterday, I love to see them and it means summer on it’s way!. We had loads 2 years ago but last year we didn’t have as many nest sites in the yard but we did seem to have a lot about when we were mowing hay so hopefully with last years good weather they had moved their nesting sites nearer to some water

Yesterday was the first time I've seen any since my OP [3rd April].
The ones that nest here seem to arrive a lot later than many surrounding areas.
They were flying high which is a sign of continuing fair weather.

I've been wondering where our resident House Martins are and it turns out they're not far away: took the dogs for a walk around the lake on the Hirsel Estate last weekend and found about 200 of them swooping over the water. They reminded me of an 18-30 holiday; eating, drinking and generally living it up, before flying off to their respective homes for the summer. A marvellous sight to warm the heart :)

Week or so here.
Heat may bring more this weekend?

Still to see one, but they may well be about with me missing them. They do leave a fair bit of mess after them, but they never fail to make me smile, beautiful and wonderful little birds. :)

Getting very scarce here

I have only heard one in the last five years; however, one of my boys told me he heard one a week or so ago near the river. I trust his judgement in this, perhaps it was an early(ish) cuckoo looking for very early reed warblers?
