Tack for lambs

Thats interesting info. Whats the sort of stocking rate per acre then that allows them to stay for 6 months? Is that price for me looking after them?

Nominal stocking rate of 2.5 - 3 per acre, but I would paddock with electric fencing and rotate them over the course of the 6 months. I would provide all shepherding, including fallen stock disposal. Drop me a PM if you want to talk more.

Heard prices up here of £25 per head for 1st October to 1st April (26 weeks). That's for hill hogs.

Rang about grass today. Fella had it already leased. I asked how much he got, his reply knocked me for 6!!!!! £1.05 for ewes. Think this is mad. 0.4kg of meal per head per day small bite of hay or some rough grazing would stand roughly £0.80

@unlacedgecko can guarantee I've never mistreated a lamb/ewe. I'd more than likely be told of for the risk of drowning in the winter. As I've said ^^^ everyone must get much drier winters than me. 2sheep inspections and a whole farm inspection, they didn't seem to worry about it to much last winter.
I have 100 ewes in a field. There's a trough with 4" of water in the bottom. It's not connected to a water supply. Two weeks now and its still got the same 4" in it. And it's not rained in that time either.

true, but are you meant to provide it

Pretty sure that's a FA requirement.

I once had a ruck of lambs on a grass reseed, that had no water supply. As it was by a road (& visible:rolleyes:), I put a tub out that was the bottom 1/3 of a 45 gallon drum and filled it with water. Nothing drank anything from it in 2 months.

If sheep are not lactating or having hard (dry) feed, then they won't drink anything, even if you do provide it to keep the experts happy.

Agree with you Neil, except to say they will drink in summer months on just grass

I was always told that sheep only drink water when they come across it. I know this is not strictly true as they will walk to water during a drought or when being fed concentrates. However I'm pretty certain that sheep on grass during winter do not need a water supply but it's probably best to be seen to be doing everything by the book.
