Teaset tups.

thinking of lambing next year around Xmas time. Will work better for my other work to get Lambed up and most lambs away by spring.
Will have around 100 Suffolk x ewes and put them to charollais tups.
Will a teaser tups be beneficial before I sponge and pmsg. Or not bother and just sponge them.

I wouldn't of thought a teaser would be of any benefit, that's what the sponge and jab is for. How many tups have you got if your going to do that lot in one go?
A swap to Dorset ewes might be easier.

No I didn't think they would make much difference.
Around 12 I thought for first cycle?

If you run teasers with them first, you will bring them forward a bit, so it will be like sponging ewes that are nearer to their natural breeding season.
The result should be a better conception rate, along with a higher scanning %age in those that do conceive.

Running teasers before sponging is a standard recc from the AI companies doing pedigree sheep, for good reason.

You'll be busy on one day, do you have enough space and hands?

They’ll lamb over 4 or 5 days, unless lambing is induced too. I’d be looking at 35-40 pens for 100 or so lambing to a synchronised mating. Fewer if 100 were sponged as only 70-80 will likely get in lamb to that cycle.

I knew I should of tagged you first.

I’ve had 29 years of lambing sponged ewes in December. This is the first year that I have no in-lamb ewes running about, as everything has been dropped back to a late Feb/March lambing.
Still a few sponged though, and a bunch of ET recipients, but the bulk are being tupped naturally for the first time in decades.:)

Yes plenty of room.
I am extremely busy with my main job from April/may onwards. So wanted to get it out the away early. And if I sponge them I know how many will lamb in each cycle to get the right amount of help. And keeps the lambing tighter which helps me out as farming is not by main business.

Will you help clear snow?
