Why can't it be homemade? They sell brackets for welding onto attachments, so what's the difference if you weld a bracket onto another headstock?

Is it illegal to cut a worn tow hook off a trailer and weld a new one on?

Do you mean illegal, or just that you wouldn't trust your own abilities with a welder?

I guess with a manufactured one you’d get a CE mark and that would look better for HSE and insurance?

Oh I can weld plenty good enough thanks, but I got no paper work to back that up just like 99% of all farmers and main dealers etc. Its a very grey area and I would expect any insurance company to wriggle out of any incident that involves a DIY built attachment fitted to a lifting machine.

For me and many others its not worth the risk of come backs further down the line.

Just because its okay to sell weld on parts to any man and his dog doesn't mean its okay for anyone to fit them.

Loading hesston bales onto a lorry the other day, crowded it right over to push a bale in and the hyd pin came out. The bale spike nearly fell off , could have killed someone.

Schaffer have a brilliant thing to help prevent this, on the headstock they have a angle sensor so when you lift high it limits the amount of crowd back, preventing over crowding of the headstock, never seen this on any other machine, at first I thought the machine was broken:ROFLMAO:

Of course you can DIY it.
BUT you need to do structural calculations, mark it with a SWL and get it Loler inspected before first use.
