Be interesting to hear supermarkets thought when supplies start to get short,as is already happening and they got to pay more for overseas supplies.heard plenty of stories about veg growers cutting down on acreage due to not enough money in the job.sure all the imported stuff won’t comply with red tractor standards but will carry the logo anyway.

Hello,

I wanted to get in touch about the news that Tesco wrote to suppliers last week explaining it would introduce new Amazon-style 'fulfilment fees' applied to each item sold on Tesco.com, Tesco.ie and through its app to help cover rising online costs.

I am looking for views from farmers views on this -

Could this threaten survival at an already incredibly challenging time? would you consider supplying to other grocers as a result? are you disappointed when you have to absorb your own rising costs?

If anyone has any thoughts they would like to share please do get in touch at [email protected] or DM your phone number if you would like to talk.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best,

Isabella Fish, Retail Editor, The Times

It’s not just Tesco. The likes of the NFU, AHDB, AIC and Red Tractor are also colluding behind the scenes (there’s email proof of this obtained by FOI requests) against U.K. farmers for their own benefit and the benefit of the supermarkets. The whole thing is corrupt and it will end UK agriculture.

its fact that supermarkets pay NFU money to sponsor things like conferences and are “corporate members “ of the FARMING union

no stories Sid, FACTS that any decent journalist could check in moments
Steady on @Clive getting a bit excited there.

Are you saying it's not always best to have thier side of your allegations. 🤔 Don't quite understand your reservations about doing that?
Plenty on here are the first to shout if someone states in the media misinformation about agriculture without checking both sides.

do you ever actually read my posts Sid ? maybe try it BEFORE hitting that reply button ?

i doubt if asked for comment the NFU will have anything bad to day about their supermarket friends

i’m sure a journalist will ask them for comment however……… will be interesting to hear if they dare criticise their corporate members/ sponsors and possible future employers

how long before your contract stipulates you rock up and polish the CEO's rolls royce once a week ?

They control UK food supply, frankly that makes them, more powerful than our government - everyone will do exactly as they say !

Cheltenham festival this week @Clive blinkers on if you think all journalists print a balanced view. Monbiot is a journalist isn't he?

I do agree it's refreshing to have someone looking for our views.
Need an anonymous quote from an actual supplier

Except they don't control the supply. We do. We have more power than you realise. We're just not organised.

I am involved with a business that used to sell drinks products direct to Tescos.
They promised the earth, kept on asking for money to fund promotions/shelf space/Christmas advertising etc etc.
But…they were terrible at selling the stuff. We sold more through 5 small local high street independents than Tesco plc.

In the end we got fed up, dropped them and now sell to other customers and export more. Much better 👍

Anyone who dares to speak out against it will be dumped as a supplier.
Was told that some of the pig producers that were campaigning on telly during the crisis with pigs backlogged on farms were delisted by at least one processor! Also heard that one processor used info on movement info to abattoir to approach third party growers to fatten for there in house pig production company rather than there existing independent farmer.

I've heard exactly the same. The processor involved being a Tesco supplier and the processor's name beginning in C and ending in ranswick. A production subsidiary of that processor has pretty much ruined me financially too.

Tesco and supermarkets in general have done a excellent job of keeping their shelves stocked with eggs haven't they !
Well done to them and their policies
