Am i right in thinking electric motors have more torque? If so an electric pick up could have some all mighty pulling power.

The cars are good so this could get interesting[/QUOTE]
The cars are good in that they have good speed but the fit and finish for the price of these cars has a lot to be desired. I have have had one for a few days and i will not be having for a while look at some of the prices + extras. They do suite some people who do short trips but if do a trip of 135 miles and you are at a meeting you have to stop some were to recharge that can take an hour or more if the is a charge freeView attachment 501132

Will probabaly have more torque than a conventional engined alternative

Can't see Range being an issue, pickups are often used for lots of short journeys, how many requlary use a farm pick up for 250 mile trips ? Even then charge stations do make it possible

Price will have to make sense though as pick-ups and lorries are bought on economics not desire

Hate to say it but I really can't see much of a future for the combustion engine

Will it tow 3.5t???

No use if it won't
Even if it will tow 3.5t whats the range then 80 miles does the auction have a charge point, yes the ideas there and one day electric power will take over, like fossil fuel did over hosses but the network has to be there for it to work aswell in this day and age batterys have to last as long as a tank of fuel and be as quick to charge up imo otherwise it isnt really progress to the majority.:scratchhead::):)

A bit like the ones that always park on the wash or the loading dock, you'll need to get in early for a charge and then just hog it

Just imagen going somewere and to find you need charge.
Look at how efficient a fuel station works and they are still cueing, times that by 1 hour per vechicle hmmm dosnt add up does it yet

Charge points at services usually seem empty because so few electric cars in use yet I guess

My defender rarely does more than 50 miles or so in a day, lots of short journeys usually so for someone like me range would simply not be a problem, I would expect many farmers would be in a similar situation ? We are generally not high mileage road users

Yes you are correct
But its the motorway user's that they are trying reduce their footprint an electric vehicle will work for the short distance user i agree, lorrys aint short distance so the range will have to be good and have a onboard recharge system to make it even better. So 6 wheeler or artic tautliner type truck could have solar panel setup over the entire roof area as a recharge system.
The more and more electric vehicles that use our roads those recharge stations that are relatively empty now will be full and cueing which then makes the idea not as attractive

Im not against electric at all it just has to work efficiently to benefit

I just hope the haulage industry isnt forced into it agaisnt their will, that will cock things up

why are there not more electric farm buggy's and quads ? they never go very far or are used for very long I wouldn't have thought
Good idea they would be great for a farm as you can charge over night as and when
How the system could be sealed though against the elements that a farm brings, whether that will affect reliablity over all but it would be a petrol fuel bill greatly reduced either way

I'm think the tesla I had a go in it was 260 miles on a charge
You are corect 260 miles is the full range but that will not be enough charge to get home so you have stop and wait to recharge and that 260 miles is if you are not using much electric like lights, air con or heater. when i tried it in the winter it was well under 200 miles
