Am I the only one who's finding the charges the texel society pass on to breeders is excessive ?
Birth notification fees, Registration fees, transfer fees and so on.

I've been a full texel member for over 25 years and been selling pedigree stock ever since. We also run 900 Welsh ewes and 50 sucklers. Hope that answers your question.

You have been a full member for 25 years?. But if you have bought animals and wish to transfer them into your flock so that you can then birth notify etc any progeny from them and hence sell them as pedigree (with a certificate behind them). What is the problem with paying a £2.00 birth notification fee and if female £6.00 registration fee in the year following birth.

£2 at birth & £6 at a year old?!!
What do ram registrations cost?

Note to self: I'm missing out on something here, must start a pedigree listing for Exlana sheep ---(might be able to give up work )

Don't think you got what I meant in my original message swt. I know the inside and outside of the fees and payments as I've been doing all the birth notifications, registrations and ewe transfers from when I've bought pedigree sheep. What I was saying in my original message was that I find the charges the texel society put on its members are extortionate. £13.98 an animal to transfer a sheep from the sellers flock into purchaser.
How does this compare with other breed societies?

£36 to £73 depending when you register the ram.

I assume you’re not vat registered, as you’re quoting vat inc cost?

Birth notifications & female upgrades are similar for Charollais, with ram registrations at £20 (+ vat) as well as needing a scrapie genotype result (another £15’ish). No transfer fees.
I’d kick off if I was expected to pay more to birth notify an ET bred lamb, having been willing to pay the money to do the ET in the first place, to further improve the performance of my flock, and potentially move the breed forward. Not everyone does it to wave their willies at the ‘biggest ram lamb’ competition.;)

Beltex are broadly similar for birth notifications and registrations (with ET registrations being higher?) but require males used for breeding to be DNA sampled, for another £30 or thereabouts.

I’m guessing you don’t have a CEO and several secretaries on full time wages to pay for. If you did, you’d likely need to charge similar fees.
Maybe the trick you’re missing, is not printing a CEO name badge for yourself?;)
