Day off, aye?:rolleyes:

Sat, bored in the house drinking too much tea... I could go do a food shop, or some work. I chose work :oops:

TexX ewes in, weighed the lambs

The first 50 were killed 9 days ago, with 20 or so leaner/smaller lambs left.
38 drawn today, all fit and all over 40kg (y)

If my man takes them all, that's almost 90 away in 2 draws. There was only 140 lambs to begin with. The ones which are left are later born and smaller, but they look like they are coming on fine - they're all in the 30's weight wise.

I'm not booked in for them to go, plan is to go through the Texel lambs this week and hopefully there'll be a decent draw of singles ready (some look pretty big!) and I'll sort out for the lambs to go once I know what I've got.

Blustery day, very sunny and warm but feels cold at times too when the clouds roll over. Grazing ground is getting tight for grass and the hard knowes are starting to turn. For all June was difficult to get a good dry days, the reality is there wasn't much rainfall and I hate to say it but we are needing it. The burns and ditches are low - verging on dry out on the highest fields...

The bigger of the 2 mobs of inbye ewes with Texel lambs fetched in before lunch and the lambs weighed. Knew there were a few big'uns amongst them so hoped to get maybe 30 to make a decent draw with the 38 yesterday...

74 drawn today :eek::eek: 112 in total :oops::facepalm:
Very pleased with how the majority are doing. I ordered a bottle of wormer and pour on last week, for this week delivery (into new month ;)) and some of the smaller lambs look like a worming would lift them, but on the whole they are doing well

Doesn't look like your regretting buying the yard and enjoying the benefit of been able to work under cover

This time of year when the weather is nice, I'd maybe prefer to be outside if I'm being honest. Sadly through winter I will still be outside when the shed would be appreciated most. My only complaint with the shed is the concrete floor - It gets in a fair mess! I might look at getting a trailer load of sawdust...

But you're right. I'm loving the yard and wishing I'd bought one years ago (y)

Last mob in this morning. The lambs looked smaller out in the field but I was surprised by the draw... it was a much smaller group than yesterday, but 48 marked. Tally that in with the 74 yesterday is 122 Texel lambs, out of 450-480 in total.

All they've had is 1 wormer and 1 multi-vit dose, and they're running old upland PP.

Here's some better pics and a video of the Texel lambs from today

That lamb is over 40kg... there's a pedal on the crate I need to stand on to unlock it and get a weight reading

Meant to say;

122 added to the 38 Suffolks takes me to 160 lambs standing ready to go. I'm very pleased, and a bit taken back, by how they're doing. I had hoped to get maybe 90 or 100, but I expected to get more like 70-80.

I've just looked up, my first lambs left last year on the 19th July and it was a grand load of... 27!!!
It really is unbelievable how bad last year was.

Slightly unexpectedly but lambs are going away this morning to Vivers. Out of the 122 Texels, 1 was struck so can't go :banghead:, 106 were wanted. Drawn off and now tagged, just waiting on the lorry. The Suffolks weren't went through, just wasn't going to be handy get the 3 different mobs in to work with, plus there was only a space for around 100 lambs to go... maybe slip the rest away next week.
