The NBA who are largely sponsored by feed companies and meat processors employed Dr Jude Crapper to come up with a sustainable beef policy which was subsequently submitted to government.
This 'policy' used inaccurate figures, false information and was self-contradictory to conclude that more feeding to finish animals quicker and supplying more stock to processors was the sustainable way to produce beef. It also concluded that any animal killed over 27 months should face an 'eco-tax' of £100.
This was largely the plan that ABP had already sat on their shelf waiting for some ignoramus with some letters after their name to put their signature on.
I guess this concludes the round of back-slapping. Cocktails all round.
Except for the average beef farmer, consumer and the environment that will suffer should this hogwash come to fruition.
The really galling part is that the sustainable beef document went to government as if it were the view of the beef farmers. The farming members were not consulted and only informed afterwards.
There were a few farmers who did support it in the press. All suppliers to........... ABP.
With thanks to the NBA, if / when any eco-tax does get introduced it will be 'as suggested by producers' and now it will also be able to say that;
"The report was written by the Professor of Sustainable beef Production at Harper Adams University" as if she was the best qualified person in the country to write it rather than acknowledging that she only holds that position as a kickback for writing the dodgy dossier.
On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
