THE BADGER CULL

110% the reason why TB has spread to all the species that you mention is because badger numbers have got out of control since they became protected thanks to Labour!

When you see sick or dead badgers around your cattle, then you do a TB test a few weeks/months later and 1/4 ( or worse ) of the cattle that these ill badgers have been near go down with TB its VERY clear that badgers are too blame!
Deer are more riddled with TB than anything else locally but hunting still carry's on tho. Maybe we should just chase infected cows through our neighbours farms????

No one is brow beating her!

Basically she is saying : I don't have cattle so TB doesn't affect me so I couldn't give a damn about my neighbours that have cattle!

The more farmers that sign up regardless of if they have cattle or not the better the effect of the cull on TB rates in badgers and cattle will be.

No idea if the OP has sheep or not but if she has then I wonder if she will change her views when they go down with TB ( Which plenty of sheep flocks in the SW are doing ) and she gets no compo for TB reactor sheep!

OP needs to look at the much BIGGER picture and not just herself!
I thought OP also said..... We also have a non ag business running from the farm that could do without the publicity this might bring

No one hunts deer as its illegal.

Nothing to stop infected badgers going from a infected farm to a clear farm either.........
Chasing deer that are badly infected with TB across many, many miles and parishes is classified as hunting. Pretty stupid idea maybe's? Do it with cow's and you would be eating porridge:whistle:

If you're going cull then cull everything that moves else you're just wasting your time. End of

You clearly haven't a clue what your talking about.

Badgers spread TB far faster/ quicker than any other species around.

How many cattle do you farm and how many years have you been under TB 2/ how many reactors have you lost in that time??

What you are saying the hunts are doing is totally illegal and very unlikely to be happening.

Just sign up and have a clear conscience that you are helping to solve a problem that affects all of us.
Exactly, well put.
My name and contact details were put onto an anti site during the first year of the cull here, some nuisance calls and general purpose idiots wandering around but that was about it. Much less anti action in recent years, hardly anything last year as anti interest has waned and the cull area grown larger. With lots of new areas coming on then it's highly unlikely that you will get any hassle. The police response has been vastly improved too, they identified the nutters and neutralised them.

I would say we have 1 chance to do something about tb in badgers and as a industry If we don't take this chance we may not get the chance again. I've had a fairly good track record with tb but others nearby haven't and I've been involved when it goes bad.
One person nearby was very bold and vocal and he had repercussions but on the whole it went well. If the anti cull patrols feel the need they will go wandering regardless of of if your signed up or not. They know no boundaries. They walked right through my farm (public footpath) at 11pm one night and we made a polite exchange and that was it. I was pre warned they were heading my way. Didn't see anyone else at all for the duration.
With further areas coming on it will be a case of them having less and less people on the ground. I respect their right to protest but in all honesty they don't stand a chance. The areas are vast now.
The 2 real nutters in this area ended up with tags on so scuppered there plans.

Matthew has given as good a reason as any to support the badger cull - the repercussions within the industry if we were stopped from exporting any dairy and beef products would decimate quite a few industries and I don't think the badger protectors would be willing to step forward with compensation:cautious:

Brexit, zTuberculosis and UK exports.

The clock is ticking.......

For anyone who feels unsure about the spread of tb by badgers, there is a lot of information on the tb blogspot link above. Some of the pictures are graphic but demonstrate how infectious badgers are with late stage tb.

If they could only revoke the protected status that an animal with far from endangered numbers currently enjoys, a lot of this would solve itself.

I always think the TB is a bit of a red herring when rallying support. If we could shelve the TB bit and talk about hedgehogs / bumble bees in a bid to ditch the protected status then maybe TB would be improved via the back door?
