Scene this morning just in from the coast 10 miles north of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Easycare sceptics will note unmelted snow on their backs, demonstrating adequate insulation!

And my 11 year old pet sheep goes on the move for her morning pick of silage:

I will have a word with this chap and let him know to prepare for winter.
Funnily enough he is much more oblivious to cold and wet than my woollier models, they hunker under trees while this guy hardly notices sleet or snow, and grazes into the weather he will be solid when he is grown!

Doesn't look like we'll be going anywhere for a while. The single track road up from the village had numerous three foot drifts blocking it and 45mph winds forecast. Not snowing at the moment. On the plus side, it's my birthday, I've taken pork belly out the freezer and there's a bottle of bubbly and plenty of beer in the fridge! The downside is that we were meant to be going for a couple of nights away..

Not a flake here, ground solid , so hope it warms up a bit next week as I’ve a boy here giving all the grass 1.5 cwt/ acre of urea !

I think of we could get down our road, it would be fine but no chance of that! We were heading to Carlisle and Cumbria is ok, as @Bill dog will confirm.

Maybe they've got snow on their backs because their core temperature is too cold to melt it.

Just checked them, they look surprisingly content. I am content to be back in the kitchen after a mercifully brief sledging expedition with the kids. Wind chill must be minus 10 at least when it gets rough.

Got a very slight dusting here only ! Sounds like you guys are getting it rough , my in laws are near Lauder and they have plenty of snow!

It seems pretty clear to me if they have enough insulation not to melt the snow on their back, then it's sufficient. Just looked out the back window and they are standing chewing their cud. Of course, they have been selected to withstand conditions up here and I won't be stressing about getting someone to clip them in May, unlike woolly sheep down south!

Slight dusting here but bloody cold. Had to abandon vaccinating today as it kept freezing in the pipe and in the needle even though the bottle was inside my coat!

Bloody hell, that's cold. I vaccinated, bolused and fluke drenched the tups and tup hoggs yesterday. Quite fun being outside then but it's grim when it turns bad today.
