The benefit of rolling

I put some turkey muck on wheat last spring as an experiment. It smelt for a lot longer longer than autumn applied muck , so I got the feeling most of the N was released to the atmosphere. Just wondering whether rolling would push a bit in to the ground, or maybe reduce the surface area exposed?

I put some Turkey muck on mine last year and have put a lot of broiler litter on contract stuff this year but luckily every time has been just before a decent rain fall event.

Are you spreading to 12m and on 24 m tramlines? Don’t like the wheelings in ww that had digestate applied via umbilical locally. The thought of a full spreader is scary.

We went at 12m last year due to dry spring. Maybe the same this year, if not I was considering going at 24m and accepting a bit of striping. You could see the wheelings last year, but not not horrendous.

What a difference a bit of sunshine and a lot of fizz makes!

I had a bit of November drilled wheat that got nailed but heavy rain post rolling and the pre em washed through(don't usually do pre em) then the crows hit it. It was manganesed and rolled a fortnight ago then had N and today was rolled again and it's really transformed it.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
