the big british beef battle

Doing some Xmas shopping the other day. Went into Waterstones. Every single climate change/save the world book had a segment on reducing beef consumption as the single best way to reduce an individual's carbon footprint. And in most of the cook books the vegan chapters began with a statement about meat being bad for the planet and your health.
I tried to find a book that actually explained the carbon cycle but I expect they were all on the top shelf wrapped in plain covers .
I see that the high and mighty at COP last week have agreed to put food production higher up their agenda for tackling climate change. We all know what food product will be first on the list.
A beef tax can't be far away.

It's a runaway train that is going to take some stopping.
At least we pay the AHDB to fight our corner..

They do. Livestock make a greater contribution to UK GHG emissions than does air travel. You can't fit a rizla between the AHDB and the C4 chap.

how did you work that out... Methane breaks down into CO2 which goes back into the biomass that the animals are eating. ITS A CYCLE!!! Whearas all that methane and CO2 put out by oil refining and burning in a plane stays in the atmosphere... will break down yes, but its not being taken out again. Its adding to the levels not just going round in a cycle.

@delilah knows that. He's just pointing out the failings of the AHDB to fight our corner properly instead of holding their hands up and saying it's all our fault guv'

@swedish red You are not far away from a very good and large herd of Lincoln Red Cattle run on a pasture for life system. Cracking cattle and cracking beef. There enviromental foot print can not be that big as a lot of the beef ends up in there own shop for locals to buy.

The carbon and methane cycles are conveniently ignored by anyone with an anti meat agenda, but it’s basic science that can’t be argued with.

Will do, though to be honest I have about given up expecting anything sensible from any official bodies.
I try to concentrate on talking at schools and universities to get the message across.
There are a surprising number of receptive youngsters out there when you get a chance to talk to them.

We were asked by the local school if we would take the kids for a part day a couple of times. We said we would it’s probably a necessity
