I think they shot Labour's fox (again).

From what I can see it won't affect a lot of small businesses anyhow

Cutting that 5k divi allowance was mean - having only just brought it in to take account of the reduced tax credit on ltd co profits.

I've just read Lab are proposing to seize 20% of the UK top 10% richest assets if they get in to pay down the debt so things could get a lost worse.

I'm not right keen on this new fella and he's done nothing for growth.

NI increase equates to about £10 per week so that's fine with me.

More Tax on company director dividends is clearly there to stop the practice of paying minimal salary and taking the rest as a dividend to avoid Tax, so that fine with me, we all need to contribute.

Also something new brought in about clamping down on the companies who run the tax avoidance schemes for the rich, so that's good.

Doesn't avoid tax as it's already been paid by the company.

What it does do is to avoid NI - so that makes the dividend changes just another NI increase.

All prohibited under the Conservatives 5-way tax lock.

What we have here is an early test of May's political capital.

Hammond gets his way with this now, and he'll be emboldened to dismantle the ruinous triple-lock on pensions come the Autumn.

But wasn't it to reflect that running a business is inherently more risky than a PAYE job. No sick pay or hols. No doubt its been abused by personal secvice companies but IR35 dealt with a lot of that.

There some relief in the falling Corp tax but business rates will wipe that out. It's a much more reliable tax than Corp. How long before rates on farms?

It does occur to me that if they are targeting "white van man", he can probably fairly well afford it.
The ones of whom I am aware are taking on their wives as partners "to do the books etc", or going Ltd in a bid to stay out of 40% tax bracket.
Your average man with a van is of the opinion that he is worth £200/day and often his assets in the business amount to no more than a mitre-saw and a battery drill, or a trowel and spirit level, or a tile cutter; and are out the gate and up the road at 16.30, like a greyhound out of the stalls. Lot of them are truly having it off, with the nationwide building boom.
Not saying they are wrong, making money is good; and it seems to be only farmers content to work for 1980s money. Just saying that the Chancellor or one his think-tank people might just have tried to get out an emergency plumber.

Hammond must be a farmer......... or a contractor at least.
Seems I'm not the only one who heard Nick Robinson (twaat) refer to him as Spreadshit Phil on the Today prog yesterday (Thursday).
