@Daniel Keep the 6930, get a donkey engine? I am sure I am not the first the suggest it but curious about why not.
This shows a bit better how we use it:

And then deliver the feed to the sheds with the big augur on top:

Mounting a donkey engine of sufficient power along with hydraulics and fuel tank etc on the machine would be a pretty expensive engineering effort, a lot simpler to run it off the tractor?!

Oh yes, no doubt it would cost you, I am just thinking that putting hours on a donkey engine is alot cheaper then putting hours on an expensive tractor. It depends on how many hours you put on it doing this work ofcourse but if you are swapping the tractor for mainly that task it would be the ideal moment to compare a fresh tractor to a donkey engine.

Could you get a redundant mill/ mix lorry?

Wouldn't need hgv etc as agricultural plant.

Either that or put up a wind turbine and go for something electrically driven.

Impressive machine! I’d be looking at something high horsepower but with no frills for that job. I agree that a tractor makes the most sense and convenience but keep the spec down as low as you can.

We did think about this before we bought this mill, but this one mixes up to 14 tons in one batch, most mill lorries do about 5 tons, so a lot more running about, by the time they are up for sale they’ll be well worn, plus it’s another engine to maintain.

I get the exact same thoughts when I see 300+hp tractors pulling the ring rolls or on a fertiliser spreader 'because it spreads it's workload'.

I get @Flat 10 point here, but I’m afraid he is an arable farmer who likes his kit immaculate, whereas we are mixed farmers! 😂 Yes we like a well specced comfortable tractor, but at the end of the day it’s a tool to do a job, if it needs to get splattered in chicken sh1t or coated in feed dust then so be it, it’s got to pay its way!

We’ve argued it all back and forth so many times, our 4 tractors clock about 2-2500 hours a year between them, so not huge amounts, but with the hens we have 4 full time employees, and it’s really useful to have one each at certain times, but on the other hand if we had 3 x mid size 6cyl tractors, same spec, that were completely interchangeable with each implement then we could manage with 3, until it got too annoying and then we’d go back to 4…… and so it goes round and round!

I'd just leave the Deere on it, if it needs engine work down the line just rebuild it and it'll do many more years. You have other tractors that could be used on it if necessary.

Trying the drug dealers tractor, which is apt, as you need to be selling something illegal to be able to afford any of these things?

It is very nice, the cvt is a bit unusual in that it has 4 ranges to change between, but each range goes steplessly from 0-its top speed.

It does 57kph on the road and has got airbags all round for the suspension, could get used to it!
