The Fencing Picture Thread

No, I can only put the stay in the direction the wire will be strained, my neighbour is directly behind the strainer post and there's no fence on his side travelling in the opposite direction.
Put the strainer post further into your fence line then use plain wire as @jamj said and put some rails between the strainer post and the anchor post/stake thats used to anchor the plain wire too, bit like a box strainer idea

Strainer stay/brace question for the learned followers of this thread. I have difficult ground so H braces aren't an option in places like I'm working at the moment due to lack of depth, it's extremely variable. Suppliers around here don't sell long wood poles suitable for braces for whatever reason. I had a digger in and we pushed down some 8 foot strainer posts where we could. I'll need to brace them due to the ground being soft. I do have some leftover galvanised steel poles, and I was thinking of using something like the Swivel Flange Kee Klamps below to join the pole to the strainer and the rock on the other end. It'll be expensive but will they last or hold up for the long run?

Yeah it'd be fine, foot the post as well - various ways of footing but you could use pipe for that aswell by driving a piece down on an angle behind the post and fixing it to the post somehow.

Bit of post and rail last week.

Someone put a picture on here showing how they “:capped “ a gate post, or at least I think it was on here. i would be very grateful if someone could put it up again, or have any other suggestions for putting a weather proof cap on a gate post, as I can’t seem to be able to find the picture.

disagree, have seen telegraph poles rot from the top. I guess a lead hat would be best, but a lot of hassle for anything other than a square wooden gate post as a feature, with wooden gates for a drive or something like that.
Yep they rot in the top but maybe 6inch down they are fresh again,
It's not so bad at top it's not the Rotting at ground level is the big problem

The telegraph poles rot from the middle where the creosote didn't reach. I tip a load of creosote on the top when I put them in, but I wonder if the creosote we can buy today is as potent as the stuff these posts were pickled in?
