The price of heptavac

£160 for 500mlwith discount on bulk.
I remember it being 120 less than 5 year ago.
Not priced crovexin but will be 60ish for 500ml?

Like quite a few round here, we changed to bravoxin 10 a few years ago, its now called covexin 10,
Miles cheaper than heptavac, but obviously with out the pasturella protection

I've stopped using heptavac and use covexin8 on the ewes. I think it was about £25 for a bottle that does 125 ewes but can't remember exactly off the top of my head. Price was partly to do with the change but I was still losing the odd ewe to pneumonia even when they were vaccinated with the P part so thought what's the point?
Don't lose any more to pneumonia that we did before and if we do it's usually got something else wrong as well. Still use heptavac on the ewe lambs and shearlings just until they get a natural immunity to it though but might do the shearlings with covexin8 next year.

Interesting. Quite a saving. Using Covexin 8 works out at 45p per ewe cheaper (single dose, so double this if using booster). Sales rep told me that I can use a single dose of Covexin 8 to ewes on Heptavac P system. Would anyone disagree with this?

Over 1,000 ewes that's over £450 per year saved. But then again if more than 4 ewes die of Pasteurella out of those 1,000 I'm no better off! Might stick with Heptavac P and call it an insurance policy! I like the idea of doing older ewes with it but then it's more hassle.

Yes, I was led to believe one dose of Covexin would boost those clostridials that are covered by both Heptavac & Covexin.

I moved my crossbred ewes over to Bravoxin 10 a few years ago, and now just start the lambs straight onto it. I don’t lose any more now than before, and have had several outbreaks of pasteurella in Heptavac vaccinated ewes in recent years, so lost all confidence in the P element tbh.

Bravoxin 10 is approximately a third of the cost of Heptavac P, and covers a couple of extra clostridial diseases, notably C.Sordellii, which is supposed to be getting more common.

To get ewes onto Covexin8, it's actually an initial 5ml injection followed up by a 2ml booster 6weeks later.

Heptavac P is just 2, 2ml injections.

Bravoxin10 is 2, 1ml injections.

Their is supposed to be some degree of cross protection against other strains of pasteurella too, ever since the ‘P+’ version came out.
We still got hit a couple of times by strains that weren’t covered though, which took a blanket AB jab of the mob to stop it.

It's an absolute kick in the teeth losing stock to pneumonia when they are (properly) on the system.

Added to that, the "P" part doesn't last very long. I always did ewes with bravoxin before lambing (to lamb in April) and the lambs with heptavac P when I felt that pneumonia season was coming (Septemberish).

Did lambs with Bravoxin 10 last season .... worked great , no losses incl those fattened inside . My few ewes will be Heptavac-P again , as currently in system , and won't break the Bank ..... But fundamentally the P bit doesn't cover all Ps and is wildly ott on price ....
