Believe me, they are serious about pushing farmers out of ruminant animal production and changing consumer habits. This is going to happen in a shorter time frame than most farmers appreciate and is being officially brought forward rather than being delayed. The targets may not be met, but that is not the point. The point being is that these anti-ruminant [beef sheep and milk] pressures are real and being actively pursued, and they will be facilitated by attrition. Squeezing farmers out of production by the simple economics of reducing demand through propaganda while drastically increasing production costs through ever increasing regulations, 'standards' and statutory infrastructure costs. It has already started and anyone who denies it must have some Ostrich breeding in their DNA.

No, you are correct, the pressure is there and will be unrelenting despite counter (correct) claims.
Issue is that many in defra, Whitehall etc are London centric and aren’t interested in the countryside or what we do.
However, whilst cattle prices are good and I can make money, I am going to crack on.

We're under pressure from all sides now. Didn't hear much of it (in and out of the truck all the time) but Radio 4 had a programme about lab grown meat yesterday - got the inpression from the bits I caught that it was 'going to save the world' from us livestock producers :banghead:
 
The trouble is, "they" see reducing ruminant livestock as a simpler route to nett zero than reducing air and road travel from their urban perspective.
Allied to that are continual moves to "export" a lot of the problem by importing most food an industrial products. I wonder how that features in their calculations?
There appears to be a complete inability to think longer term rather than focussing on what they see as the easy "wins".
However I rather suspect that what they see, with their metropolitan goggles on, as easy will be nearer impossible in practice (I hope).

Roger Harrabin. Big mates with AR, fair play to them, they have understood from day 1 the need to get the media on your side. Whereas all our lot do is take the media to court and whinge about unfair stories. We get the media coverage we deserve.

This really gets me going. Electric cars are zero emissions? What a load of shite, unless all that electricity is generated naturally, it isn't. If I believed in the conspiracy theories, the big companies, want to 'produce' protein. The irony is that they will or have by growing soya cutting down rainforests.

Boris promising whatever jumps into his noggin, knowing full well that that he won't be in power when the rioting starts. And start it will, because Joe Average won't put up with a government that makes life considerably more restrictive and expensive for long.
