Or just highlighting a truth you don't care for. :)

Daft, there is nothing on which to compare modern Germany with its Nazi past, it is - admittedly belatedly - just pulling its weight as part of NATO, which is a good thing.

Armies that are commanded by those without democratic accountability are the problem. (y)
Short memories. I seem to remember that the UK supplied arms to the Mujahideen after Russia invaded Afghanistan......bad idea that was in light of history. We also supplied arms to both Iran and Iraq in the 1980's. Bad idea in the light of............
Beware who you choose to be friends with. Russia is the enemy this week. Next week ?

Oh, and I wonder how puzzled the Afgans must be watching all this help and a united front given by the West to Ukraine ? But I digress.........
Some truth in that........................infact a lot of truth in it. They will still be suffering just as much as well, only its not the No 1 news item anymore.

Anyone else find it ironic that alot of energy firms (shell etc.) are pulling out or distancing themselves from Russia, due to the attack on Ukraine. Yet when Bush invaded Iraq and murdered 100's of civilians in the process, they qued up like kids in a sweet shop.

Perhaps Brexiteers will finally realise they were played by Putin and the Tories he compromised🤔
Putin came on the scene in 1999, several years after the older Brexiteers realised that they wanted out. Putin has played along with the west and the EU in particular and lulled them into a false sense of security.. We were warned in the mid nineties that, this man was heading for power and that he was potentially a grave danger to humanity.

Putin has been playing chess.
The West have been playing checkers.

Thank goodness that well known Russophile Donald J Trump is not POTUS. Now old Vlad's adventurer is unfolding we see more clearly why the Donald tried to drum up a rebellion in January 2020. Having Trump as POTUS was part of the KGB gameplan. Our Donald would not be rushing to help. No Siree MAGA America First. Old Sleepy Joe knows the score. And now the game is rumbled the Japanese are off the fence. The Germans have snapped to attention. And the world looks good. The story will end well. And a long dinner table will be up for auction.

I hope you are right. I don’t believe I have ever seen unity on this scale.

Germany is not over it's angst over WW2 and killing millions. Germany goes out of it's way to have policies which are damaging such as open door immigration - to the extent it's had to roll those policies back,.

In other words the average German politician is unable to take a pragmatic view of the world and is liable to extremes.

"Armies that are commanded by those without democratic accountability are the problem."

You mean like the knighted Tony Blair ?

Vlad's overplayed his hand. Pair of Queens high. Thought the west would fold. Instead the west has pushed forward all its chips and called.
Our "only" risk is he goes mad at the damage the west's weapons have caused his army and starts nuking everything. Puting forward all our chips is not without risk. But I'm assuming the west realises this.

If in the event putin is taken down I sincerely hope we can forge a new relationship with Russia which isn't about scoring points on each other. We carry some of the blame for this mess

Looks like game on. And deal with the China issue at the same time. Such fun. Make a great action movie.

. The story will end well.

Putin has only one option - which is to conquer Ukraine. The alternatives allow Ukraine into NATO - which means Putin is humiliated and no more Putin + Russian cronies.

Failing to take Ukraine will also mean immediate entry by Finland and maybe Switzerland.

Putin and those that depend on Putin are all in - unless Ukraine can be pursuaded to go neutral. That's also ignoring China and Iran, probably Belarus & North Korea.

So you now have to ask yourselves will Putin limit himself to none nuclear weapons.

I just don't see why it was ever worth risking a Nuclear war just to get rid of one man and maybe his hangers on.

IMHO it's already way past worthwhile .. I bet £Trillions will be spent shoring up military and paying extra for energy. What a waste of lives and money.
