things that make you smile

I think the man on the ladder was putting a token spar in the thatch for the camera not taking a cut at that time of the year and when another was under construction tbf but still a striking photo , in the days when things were done right for the sake of doing them right
Possible explanation, it was believed and in some places still is, that horses should not be fed newly made hay, and they would most likely have been stalled for most of the year, with a spell of being turned out, for a holiday or put out to grass. Hence the use of last years rich, which on the end face looks freshly cut. (Thank heaven for bales)

But you wouldn't have to build an antelope room and so aren't special.
We are actually in the process of moving house on the farm. We tried to move the antelope by pushing it into a cage. That didn't go well so we decided it needed sedating. Next day we approached ' Barry' bearing roses. Wife had prepared the Rompun and so we were ready to go. I grabbed him by the horns and son and daughter wrestled him to the ground. Whilst doing this Barry managed to put a horn into my head so my the time the wife had jabbed him I was bleeding quite profusely. To add insult to injury when the kids released him Barry ran back and butted me again. He quickly went down and was carried to the trap. Whilst they were carrying him my Son told my wife he thought Barry was a bit lighter than we'd thought closer to 50 kg than the 100 kg my wife had dosed him at. At this a bit of panic set him but we loaded him up and drove him to the new house. We got him out but he was not coming round very quickly. It took about three worrying hours for him to come round . Today he is very angry and refuses to eat any roses I think he fears a trap.

What else could you expect if you will insist on calling him Barry! 😁

Last storm
Yes plastic wouldn’t last long here
Got any more pictures, storm has removed half of my cover and now have less than half a tunnel for lambing. Was thinking of tinning it but didn't know if the structure would stand it. Old man wants timbers on and tin rolled I was more thinking of sheets sideways like you and plenty of screws to help tie all together.

We put 2 rows of poles in with bracing between them and bracing to the normal tunnel hoops. Sheets held on with lots of tek screws

@Lowland1 how’s your head? Those horns look deadly!
I''ve got a bump but it's o.k. I had a headache but it most certainly could have been worse.
Could do this
we did put champagne corks on at one point for a joke. He sees my son as competition so would sneak up behind him. People usually get rid of them when they get aggressive but he really isn't nasty and he loves my wife. At the new house there's more space at it is safer to let him roam and if he doesn't come back one day it will be because he's found a friend rather than someone has eaten him.

Almost exactly 45 years ago we were working on a uni project to allow a paralysed person to sip and puff on a straw in Morse Code to talk to a rudimentary desktop computer, to type, play basic music, and operate a page turner for a book. My god what giant strides we've taken in biomedical engineering 🏆 in a little over 2 decades.

Keeping the ornithology theme going...

The Goldfinches are back
Long-tailed / Bottle tits back here; never a sign of them at all in the Winter, but almost to the day every year they re-appear at the Spring Equinox.

Really looking forward to seeing the swallows back after a bloody miserable and wet Autumn and Winter here, just the sight of them makes me smile, wonderful little birds. :)
