fifteen of the worlds largest cargo carriers emit more emissions than all 770 million cars in the worldIn what way is it one of the dirtiest? I'm not up to speed on the OOCL Hong Kong, but any other record breaking container vessels launched in recent years have been designed to minimise their environmental impact

That doesn't make the OOCL Hong Kong one of the dirtiest ships though. You can't compare cars and ships, they're completely different.fifteen of the worlds largest cargo carriers emit more emissions than all 770 million cars in the world
this is true but that ship burns heavy fuel, it is a terribly dirty ship they all are, unregulatedThat doesn't make the OOCL Hong Kong one of the dirtiest ships though. You can't compare cars and ships, they're completely different.
your car is taxed to death trying to be green ,there is no point if big ships destroy the planet, the emissions are all the samethis is true but that ship burns heavy fuel, it is a terribly dirty ship they all are, unregulated
Fail to see how that is possible!fifteen of the worlds largest cargo carriers emit more emissions than all 770 million cars in the world
That article is dated 2009. Since then shipping lines have introduced slow steaming policies, have designed new ships to operate at lower speeds and have started to use cleaner fuels. Maersk Line alone are aiming to reduce emissions per container from China by 35% by 2020. Shipping does cause pollution, but what's the alternative? People want goods cheaper than we can produce them.
its fact ,but there are only 80000 large cargo carrying ships, see threadFail to see how that is possible!

Local small town shops....... washing machine went pop this morning.
So I rock up to our local electronics place in my finest ripped farmer regalia, to which I get neither a look to suggest that A. I'm a tramp or B. I'm abit "special".
Instead I'm pointed in the direction of a farmer friendly reasonably priced washing machine, before I even ask if I can take it away right away, the assistant has already said, park your truck up outside and we'll chuck it right in.
Park the Landy outside....literally right outside the main door, no hissy fit from the shop about parking on the yellow line.
&no collective mental breakdown over the HSE implications of lifting a washing machine in to the back of the Landy.
That's why the independent shop is still here..... and Currys is long gone
People pay cheap , get shite, then complain and go and buy another one and if goverment helped our industries rather than tax the bollox out of them we could compete against the imports and out do them on quality as well . But , oh no we cant do anything to upset our business friends and make it harder for them to do business .... f**k THEM all they do is shaft us and our spineless , bollock less , goverments ignore it arseholesThat article is dated 2009. I couldn't agree more. I hate seeing the decline in our manufacturing industries, but what is the answer? I fear it is too late now to turn things around.People pay cheap , get shite, then complain and go and buy another one and if goverment helped our industries rather than tax the bollox out of them we could compete against the imports and out do them on quality as well . facts dont lieAs a marine engineer The figures just do not add up. Open waters ships can burn heavy oil, but withing coastal waters, all european waters and US waters they must burn MGO (diesel). The ships move tens of thousands of tons of cargo huge distances, and a far more economic and environmentally friendly that any other method of transport.
Yes they do pollute, but ton for ton, far less than even the most ecconomical truck.
The quest for cheap goods is a driving force. If you are willing to buy locally produced goods then do so, but expect to pay a premium. If we all bought British then we would be a rich nation!
If you believe that 15 ships can emit more polution than 770 000 000 cars then think again!
facts dont lie
Its definately to late for our major heavy industries they have been destroyed or sold out to the competing countries only to be closed when they can legally shift the business abroad and continue to trade on the companies reputation /name.I couldn't agree more.
