I think most TFF users more than understand the levels of financial pressure we are likely to experience next season. Inputs prices are rising seemingly daily and the margins some suppliers have come to expect are no longer sustainable.

Loads of threads over the years here have suggested farmers work together to change this but loyalty and apathy are strong in UK agriculture so its mostly just noise and no action ! ............ Well here is you chance to maybe actually make a positive change and shift power back to us .......the farmers !

Arable products

Grassland Products

In its first year of building the UK’s first digital buying group Farmdeals has secured many reputable suppliers in not all but quite a lot of areas of the UK for products such as fuel, fertilisers and feed. What has been disappointing to date is that we have been unable to supply a full range of crop protection products. Despite every other buying group being able to offer product, we have struggled.

For some reason the existing supply chain doesn’t seem to like the idea of Farmdeals. While we see ourselves as just another buying group, the supply clearly does not.

Disruption to bring better price to farmers requires lateral thinking. Seeing how FBN in the USA have solved a similar issue has shown us there are other ways. An article by AgWeb in the USA about FBN shows how much things can change, it’s an interesting read:

Speaking to them and inspired by what FBN have achieved, we have secured our own direct supply.

So the exciting news is that In 2023 we will have limited availability of most of the main generics used and DIRECTLY from manufactures . It is our hope that this will come with game changing prices, with a target of 20% below the average market price. To achieve this though we need our members help, a chance for farmers to work together to change the market in their favour.

The best prices will come if we can commit to volume, to do this we need an idea of what FarmDeals members (and those of you still to join!) might need. Filling out our form and estimating what you think you might use in 2023 will help us get the best possible deal for you.

It doesn’t need to be completely accurate, and we are not asking for any commitment. But those that fill out the form will have priority on the product volume we secure at the lowest possible price for 2023.

Because the arable world is a lot more complicated than the grassland world. We can only get generic products for arable, no R&D. However, in the grassland world the products are easier to get supply of. Hence we can list some R&D as well. I'll add generic Fluroxpyr (Minstrel) to the grassland survey. Thanks for that feedback.

Completed, though for any great purchasing volume you'll need a lot of us wee upland and heather hill livestock peasants, because we don't use much.

We need ....................... that stop us needing products then the suppliers margin or lack of it is neither here nor there

It you guys that should see the best improvement in prices of a joint buying exercise like this. Certainly the generic Minstrel should be a cracking price. To be honest, I'd have been happy supplying Minstrel, but can't get a supply of it.

How is this going to work for people in Scotland etc? As I am currently a farmdeals member but can't seem to get any chemicals as I am outwith the delivery area I assume

When we have our own supply we will be able to deliver to Scotland. There are very few products on Farmdeals currently. We just sent some biostimulant up there last week. Prices do go up when you go really far north, but can still be reasonable.

Are you Livestock or Arable?

Mostly arable but have some grass as well so would certainly be interested in generics direct. Just filled in the survey now

this direct supply is potentially game changing for British farmers next year

For once farmers working together could really make a significant difference, not a few scraps thrown as a token jesters by established distribution but something more like what AF logic were trying to achieve before “pressure“ shut them down though threat of removing supply ………… we can’t be shut down though so this is s unique opportunity

the more we can forecast volume the better the prices will be, there is no commitment but those letting us know their potential requirements will recieve priority access to what we get

nothing in this for FarmDeals, it about shaking up a situation that works against farmers getting MUCH better crop protection prices than they do
