ummm with yer now talking of over sowing a crop in to say a clover base to harvest the crop leaveing the clovers etc under it

i have over sowed oats and ryecorn in to alfalfa but only for silage or hay the ozzies do it a bit with oats in to alfalfa for hay cropping

things like lower growing white clover etc would work OK with harvestable crops but not sure on taller growing grasses etc ..an older run out paddock it would be worth trying and keeping an open mind to end use eather graze chop or head

i would not say it's common here tho
