Haven't topped it for a few years. Sometimes think it's a good thing. Those topping the market probably have bigger losses and more problems.

Not sure how it all stacks up feeding them barley I could sell for £250/t.

Won't be worth anymore as stores or fat for the finisher. Those grazing them putting fert on @£630/t. Making silage etc.

Something needs to change or it will be a race to the bottom.

I never quite get this Today at Work malarkey correct - these pictures are from Today Nobody is at Work - and they weren't here yesterday either.....

Surprising to look back and see how much progress we are making but I'm pretty sure we will need every last minute up until the first heifer calves.

Progress - parlour 251221.jpg

Most of the parlour is fitted and busy fitting vacuum pumps, water heaters, washdown pumps etc. Feeders are being fitted between Christmas and New Year. Builders have a lot of concrete to lay yet but it is surprising how much of the underground stuff is all done - drains, ducts, posts installed, etc.

Progress - lagoon 251221.jpg

This has been a huge nightmare. Contractor estimated it would take 2-3 weeks to construct the lagoon - I didn't believe him but hoped 4-5 weeks would be "doable". It has taken 9 weeks, site wetter than the test digs showed and shifted 30,000 tonnes of gravel. It was lined a couple of days before Christmas and we still have mixing points to install and the safety fence to erect.

Always enjoy reading this thread and seeing how busy everybody is. A belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.

Getnthair - really struggling to get there on this project..........
