Today NOT at work

ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, as those who fought in WW1 from 1914 to 1918, but the date 25/4 refers to the day of the failed Gallipoli campaign of 1915 and hence is the equivalent of your Armistice day as HCF has stated .It's now a day to commemorate those who fought in all wars not just WW1. It is also a point in history where the Australians and New Zealanders realised that in these situations that we could not fight just under British command but under our own. Quite an important day , not just a public holiday.
Thanks everybody.

Yes. He wrote it but I think one of the best versions is by a guy called Roy Baily ( who also wrote You Need Skin if you want something to make you smile.) I don't want to get into a big debate about the rights and wrongs of war but if you want a anti war song this is it! I used to work with a New Zealander who had been at Gallipoli and I so wish I had taken the trouble to try and talk to him about it more and understand what happened but I'm in that generation who just didn't talk about it (1960s 70s even into the 80s).
Mums Dad fought with the 8th Army (Tobruk, Palermo, Anzio, Monte Cassino, on into Germany). He often chatted about the fun they had and silly stuff they did but was very quiet about the bad bits. I wish I'd talked with him about it more. He did have very bad memories of Monte Cassino though and loathed "Anzio Annie".

Few from yesterday
A beautiful area, but wouldn't envy you in winter,
And what's that tree doing there,
