"gather your stuff - stay put for now, but prepare to evacuate" Fortunately 7 fire crews and a helicopter tamed it.
Apparently there's wildfires raging near Christchurch...... consuming over 1,500 aces After a couple of days it's approx 70% under control

A "Bitter-Sweet" post - this one.
Said our goodbyes to Gemma & Ian...... not knowing when we'll see them again, but today's tech makes it easier to keep in touch.
Made the long journey back to Olde Blighty and the seething mass of people at London.
So glad to to get back home……. away from the hussle and bussle of London (apart from rain gauge being full)

Gus was pleased to see us.
It's been a holiday far from the norm for us (normally have a few days away in a holiday cottage somewhere in the UK) but driven by our daughter working out in NZ we have had a fantastic time, seen spectacular scenery and made memories that will last a lifetime.
Our youngest will be fledging the nest in the next month or so, having bought her first home...... and our eldest should be making us Grand parents in the next couple of weeks, a far cry from last year when we lost the wife's Mum, my Dad & our beloved Jack Russell Bert in January.
Time stops for no one & life goes on.

Had a drive from Lake Tekapo to Timaru...... as Mrs.... it's only me wanted to see some nocturnal penguin's, which did appear "eventually". Have to say I foundView attachment 1164497View attachment 1164498View attachment 1164499View attachment 1164500View attachment 1164501View attachment 1164502View attachment 1164503View attachment 1164504View attachment 1164505View attachment 1164506View attachment 1164507View attachment 1164508View attachment 1164509 the drive down "dealer road" and the comings and goings at the freight terminal far more interesting 🤣
Only just seen your photos, you'd have just about driven past me when you went north from Timaru.
Caroline bay is a funny beach, look one way it's nice sand and coastline, turn to the right and they're flat out loading a container boat or unloading fertiliser.
Not a bad place to live. (y)
