So I’m putting up a new shed this next few months. She’d will house 120~ and two robots. I’m putting ventilation curtains on but can’t decide what type to go for. Anyone got any advice on whether they should be top down or bottom up?? Cheers in advance

Depending where you are think carefully about external wall height. I think as low as possible to get some air movement over the beds to dry them out.
You can only do this if you have curtains.

Worth considering eves height too. You don't need to have 20ft eves, they can be pretty much as low as you want. It helps the stack effect (you just have to consider machines entering and feeding out) - but you need upstands and the right size open ridge (I think 0.1m sq/cow?? So 100 cows has 10m sq of open ridge... think that's right). I have a yellow book on it

I know this isn't your original question but if you a building from scratch, think about the floor slope... I promise you will thank me later. Builders will prefer to do a completely level concrete pad but a slope will stop pooling and will be far more compliant with the ammonia regs that are just around the corner.

Have an overhang roof, preferably 1 metre plus. I have a DeBoer air curtain which is like a series of hollow tubes that inflate like a big plastic bag to fill the gap. If I did it again I would spend the extra and have a proper wind up curtain.
+1 for a good slope on the floor. Did ours at 3%.in case we wanted to flood wash at a later date but ended up with cable scrapers. No chance of any water pooling.

Definitely bottom up, had top down on a 140ft building then extended it to 260ft when extended we renewed the curtain the full length bottom up far simpler and so much less too go wrong and in my opinion a nicer feel to the environment in the building

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
