Anyone know what size tractor is safe to tow behind a pickup truck on the motorway without getting in too much bother / attention.

Ford ranger with 14ft I for twin axle - would an IH 784 be taking the pee?

You would be overweight. How far over depends what the age and towing capacity of the ranger is.

If it’s the 3.2 it will most likely pull the load dead easy but not fast enough to escape the clutches of plod or VOSA.

I made that mistake the other week, collected a 10ft 30”roller to find after I’d got it home it was completely full of water :/ very deceptive when the tiny forklift hooked it up like it was nothing

That’s taking the pee at 6 tons with the trailer 7 ton, a tow ball is only rated to 4t max. Tyre overhang is stupid too dare say if it developed a puncture on those edges and leant over it would be off. I think if you had that come loose and wrote your car trailer and another off in the process your insurer would walk away
