Towing with a telehandler

The V5C will tell you what kind of vehicle you are driving, not some ignorant copper. Should you be pulled over and roasted, don't assume the uniform = detailed knowledge.

There is a segment of police officers who seem to think the (rightly or wrongly) that the agricultural realm is a source of easy collars. In reality they are probably correct because of the wide range of machines being used on the roads that have notable defects, however, I would hate for them to assume that the grey and hazy areas of law that only the very best informed here are fully observant of is an excuse to go after people who are otherwise innocent because they can 'force' their interpretation of the law on them.

What kind of copper claims a telehandler is a mobile crane (I assume they knew what one of those looks like) and then walks off having neglected to check that the blokes load of bales was strapped on?

Unfortunately you do not need a lot of nous to be a police officer these days and the strong attraction of a power trip over us mere mortals and our list of heinous crimes against humanity with easy paperwork is obvious.

It pays to know your sh*t. When in doubt, take advice before bending over and taking whatever a uniform gives you by admitting anything. The NFU legal helpline could save you points and a fine.

The DVLA site specifically says a telehandler can be registered as an agricultural tractor if type approved, with this registration it is OK to drive the same as a tractor regarding age andtrailers.
It also says that other telehandlers can be driven on aCategory B licence with an age restriction of 21 if over 3,500kg ( most obviously ) but there is no mention of trailers! So since in UK law if it is not forbidden you can do it.
There are many especislly in the insurance and H&S insustry who like to confuse the issue

Not sure on the laws but never been pulled over. On the capability front we have run merlos for the last 7 years and pulled 3000 bales a year of silage/haylage/straw on arctic a convertion with no bother. They have a very simple robust transmission and have ample breaking.

Nice. My GX15LL arrived the other week. They are very well finished bits of kit, right down to the hydraulic couplers for the beaver tail. Nothing less than Kennfix. I’m impressed.

We are very happy with it , we run their grain trailers as well so knew they were good , league of their own right now IMO
