Toyota Land Cruiser replacement

We've a landcruiser Amazone 4.2L 2004 that's been too the moon & is on its way back.
Looking for a replacement that's a bit more economical on the old diesel[emoji85]
Maybe a 3.0 litre. Not keen on the look of the landcruiser lc4's etc.
Anyone got any good suggestions of a good replacement l?

I'd be amazed if the V8 hit 30mpg during normal driving, but its certainly more economical that the 22 to 25 mpg achieved by the 4.2 100 series.

In general terms, the newer and lighter the vehicle design, the more economical it likely to be. I'd look at the Discovery5 with 2.0 diesel if new and wanting 3.5 ton towing. Used, the Mercedes ML350 perhaps? GL320 or 350. All 30mpg or thereabouts easily bettered. Lots more choice available than V8 200 series Land Cruisers.

While I'm not keen on the Land Cruiser 90/120/150 series [known variously as Prado, Colorado or just plain LC, depending on when and where] but it is a sensible and viable option. Again the later the better.

Lots of cheap Mitsubishi Shoguns on the market.

New model SsangYong Rexton? This is the budget value option.

Although they aren’t that economical what like have running costs been as I hear people say that the lack of repairs and spending makes up for the mpg? How many miles has it done? What’s condition is body work in?

Running costs have been very good, the odd bit of bother with the suspension but excellent on the whole. 248,000 miles on the clock engine still runs like new. Put 2 new front wings on it a couple years ago due to rust but the rest is good

I'd say that a LC is a very good investment. Shame the tray version isn't imported into the UK. 35+ years of running a single work vehicle has a nice feeling to it. OK I know some folk hate LR's but I've had sterling service from by LR over 24 years.

I have a great notion for a 80 series with manual gearbox but good ones are hard to find and anything up my way is rusty

+1 for that, neighbours 200 Series has clocked up only 400,000km with straight forward servicing, was running a Discovery 3 (no engine problems with the 2.7) that did 400,000km but servicing costs were starting to add up, and still had the Pajero as the back up 4WD.
