evening all....thanks for all the replies...i've decided the best next step is for me to go an visit a few of the people that have been mentioned on this thread as they are relatively local. That way i can see for myself what will suit me the most.

The key points for me are....

1. Reliable - i know nothing about tractors and whilst i am sure i will learn the more i use i don't want to be having to fix and tinker with something all the time when i just want to get a job done. I don't need anything fancy like electrics, and comfort is a nice to have, but I'm not planning on spending day after day after day on the tractor

2. Longevity - i've got a budget, doesn't mean i need to spend all of it, but if its the difference between getting something that can do everything i may need it to do in the future, or something that i can only use for the immediate time, then i'd rather spend more upfront, and have the ability to use it for more than i currently need - id hate to think 'if only.....id be able to do.....'

3. The poly tunnel is undecided as of yet to the specifics, but probably be around 27ft wide by 60ft long. The ground will be prepared before the tunnel is setup, getting the tractor in and out is obviously beneficial but not essential

4. I don't mind not having a cab, but would want a roll bar to prevent the risk of killing myself, something thats easy to operate and easy to drive is essential

Thanks again

Potential tractor models

MF35 OK, but difficult to fit power steering

MF135 look for the straight axel version, the most versitile tractor available

Ford 4000 good choice, but may be bigger than needed

Case 785 AVOID , to complicated and difficult to fix.

IH 414/434 would also be a good choice

A man enters a Trappist monastery where he's told he has to serve time as a novice before deciding whether to stay permanently. He's also told that one monk is allowed to speak, at breakfast, once a year.

A few months pass and the breakfast speaking date draws round. The nominated monk stands up and says "I'm tired of cornflakes - do you think we could have porridge sometimes?"

A year later and it's another monk's turn. He duly stands up and says "I'm not that keen on porridge or cornflakes, but boiled eggs would be nice".

Another year, another monk: "I don't like eggs. Do you think we could bring back the cornflakes?"

Then a year passes and it's the novice's turn to speak. He stands up and says "I'm sorry to say that I intend to leave the monastery. This constant bickering has worn me down."

All well and good until the fatefull morning where the heater plugs wont work and you cant get it to start,

the dry disc brakes would, unless fully overhaulled and adjusted regularly, be no better than the drum brakes of the 135, which, although not exactly great, didnt require constant stripping and adjustment like the dry disc brakes of the 60s and 70s

The heater plugs are in series, with the indicator resistor on the dash, so at least you know when one has blown, Ithe would only need 'constant adjustment' if you constantly did it wrong!:banghead::banghead::banghead:
