Tractor Hire Cost

I am thinking of hiring a tractor maximum of about 90hp in for hay making this year, hopefully just a week, any ideas on the way someone/contractor may charge, is it by the hour meter, bt the day, by the week etc, and what would be a fair price to pay for a loader tractor, to do a bit of off loading from a trailer and stacking the hay in the barn?

Imo it's cheaper to get a contractor in . For mowing and baling .just do the tedding

I need a tractor with a loader for unloading my hay trailers and stacking the hay in the barn, I have almost covered the rest, hopefully today I will decide between a, Lely, Kuhn or Malone 4 rotor tedder.

You would be far cheaper just to pay someone to unload it
Getting a hire tractor for one dry week will be dam near impossible, then you need to have a loader too, and one that matches your attachment

If your stuck, you could hire a mini digger; a 3 ton would easily manage loading unloading.
Or a teleporter.
But if your looking to haul as well; then you really are looking at a tractor.

Neighbour would surely do that for beer money in an evening? It’s not like there’s any great rush - just push the bales off by hand in a nearby field and when they’re all gone get them stacked?

How do you get them out in the winter for feeding? If you need a tractor to put them in, surely you need one to take them out again?

We have hired from Firby`s before
£500 per week
But not much use if you are in Devon

So it's small bale hay?
You will need suitable bale handling equipment that actually fits the tractor you hire. Which may not be straightforward.
Also how do you know which week to hire a tractor? It's often a long, drawn out job if the weather is iffy.
As you say buying something may be your best option.

The OP wants it for unloading - which could surely be done at leisure and by hand, if trying to be canny with the cash. Last year we did small bales, we managed to fill a dutch barn - around 10,000 bales I think - by hand without anything beyond a simple sledge and a 31 grab.
