Didn't really know where to post this. The radio in one of our tractors is basically crap and just wondered if anyone had any ideas what make to buy to get the best signal for stations?

its a new holland but same thing i suppose, how did you guess?

Been looking at dab ones, was slightly concerned as a few said you needed a separate aerial????

Because a lot of Case tractors have terrible signal. Ok one way up the field, then terrible the other way. Its because they have a bad earth from new.

And yeh you do need a new aeriel for DAB but thats not really a problem, weve got three now and there good.

I have one of those pure highway DAB radios that I use in the tractors. Wifey bought me it as a present a few years back. Was a brilliant idea on her part it's just a pity the signal round here is shocking.

Dab is the way to go reception is as good if not better than fm around here. All of our radios came from halfords. Philips are simple to use. Have 2 pioneer which are a pain to set stations. too many of the buttons have a multitude of different uses. All have separate arials easy to fit. Most are magnetic but we have just tried a stick on one in a manitou and so far it has worked well.

I don't get dab signal here....

I do have an alpine ide-178bt head unit

Focal 5" access series 100w cones with separate front mounted tweeters.

Kenwood sw11 subwoofer.

It sounds absolutely stunning (y):D, but did set me back a little over half a grand:oops:

2 of our Philips were on special offer a couple of years ago 60 quid the pair. I like them but I suspect the sound isn't up to your standards.

I have Philips and Pioneer DAB units in our manitous both are fine. The Philips has also spent a couple of years in the combine. One Manitou has a magnetic aerial and the other s stick on.
I see Halfords currently do a 20% discount if you trade in your old radio for a DAB. I have to get one for the combine as it is now in a Manitou:(. Manitou standard radios are rubbish not sure if Halfords will do a trade on one with Manitou written all over it.

i put an alpine slimline sub in my 6150R and it didnt seem to make much of a difference unless the door or a window was open, plus it was hard work getting it to fit without interfering with the seat! shame really as the toyota slimline sub i put in the hilux under the seat works wonders! just waiting for the speakers to go in the other tractor before upgrading them also, think i have some alpines the right size left over from my old audio build from my car!

also back on topic, have you tried checking the ground is connected properly on the aerial and is it one of those useless hidden internal aerials or a whip type, internal seem to be about as useful as a chocolate teapot, I found pioneer to be the better brand for signal quality however that was on a standard fm radio not DAB

I have just fitted a Sony blue tooth unit in a tractor, can do dab via the Internet using the phone. Better reception than any radio.

Is there any way of improving this? A better earth maybe, or even fitting a new antenna? Does anyone know of a good antenna, suitable for a tractor?

Get a two way mag mount (taxi type) there should be an adapter on ebay to convert it to the correct fitting for the DAB radio. Cut down the whip to the correct length, or even better I use a flexible whip from a Transit van, works fine. The normal magnetic DAB are rubbish because they detach pretty easy every time a tree branch catches it. Two way magnetic bases are bigger and with the flexible whip it will never come off.
