In an attempt to keep our vehicles in better condition I wanted to get covers for the seats and steering wheels.....

Can anybody recommend any that don't wear out in 6 months and need replacing? Our tractors are not getting used heavily and still the ones we have just don't last.

Thanks

I bought a whole suede pigskin a few years ago, better than plastic as it doesn't make you sweat. Can't remember where I got it but I must have searched the net, it's on its second tractor now and still not showing any signs of wear, probably at least 7 years old. When I first put it on I tied it in place, then when i got a new tractor I just draped it over the seat temporarily and never got around to fixing it properly, it stays in place fairly well, one day I'll get around to doing it!
Found it: http://www.leprevo.co.uk/hides.htm#suede

I don't really get the concept of seat covers ...all you are doing is sitting on a wrinkly lump of sweaty plastic all day and preserving the the original seat for the next owner ....just use the comfy seat provided
Ha ha ha, that’s exactly what my Granda used to tell me when I was going through the keep everything spotless stage .
Now older I agree with him.
Our 3cx had a waterproof seat cover from new and it’s on sale on EBay by a dealer with the cover thrown off and the seat looks new and described by him as immaculate . So the cover really worked.

John Deere genuine is the best I’ve come across. Fairly expensive and the colour is an acquired taste but it fits properly, hasn’t worn in 3500 hours and you don’t have to keep straightening the thing out.

It does take half an hour to fit- you have to take the seat cushions off then it’s a very tight fit to get it set properly.

Does your arse not sweat or legs stick to it if you have shorts on ?

Haven’t found it a problem- the tractor has air conditioning so it’s never hot enough in there to get sweaty?

The opposite is true though- the heated seat basically doesn’t work now because of the extra insulation.

I only ask as the other two lads I work with bought the leatherette seat covers and you end up stuck to the bloody things

It isn’t as comfortable as the standard seat, main criticism is it’s a bit slippery.

But if you want a seat cover it’s about as good as it gets.

When I was working for a contractor, at one point for 3years I was running an ex demo deutz that came with a seat cover. Used to put it on just as maize finished to keep the seat clean over the winter while on slurry, dung etc and then take it off as we started 1st cut so the seat didn't get as hot and slippery. Seemed to work well but haven't gotten a half decent reasonably fitting cover with a tractor since
