Tributes have been paid to an 18-year-old member of the Markethill Mart team in Co. Armagh who recently passed away following a road traffic collision.

Daniel McCallister of Clare, Tandragee, was a “valued member” of the team at the livestock mart, according to a post from Markethill Livestock and Farm Sales.

In the post from the Hewitt family and staff at the mart, it read: “We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of young Daniel McCallister.

“Daniel was a valued member of our mart team and we pass on our sincere sympathies to Daniel’s parents, William and Barbara, his siblings and the wider family circle at this very difficult time.”

The weekly sale that took place on Saturday, September 21 at Markethill Mart was paused at 11:30a.m for a reflection on McCallister’s passing.

McCallister was involved in a two-vehicle crash on the Cladymilltown Road on Sunday, September 15, but passed away some days later in hospital on Wednesday, September 18.

His funeral service took place in St. John’s Parish Church, Mullabrack on Sunday, September 22 at 2:30p.m, followed by a private committal in the adjoining churchyard.

Life After, a charity based in Northern Ireland that delivers support services to family and friends of those who have lost their lives through a road traffic collision stated it was “saddened to hear that 18yr old Daniel McCallister has sadly died from his injuries, three days after a collision in Co Armagh.

The charity stated it wished to let McCallisters’ family, friends and wider community know that the organisation can provide support and assistance if or when required.
