Blue spray, and maybe some fly treatment depending on weather where you are. Will probably grow a lump of horn and never look handsome again though.

Thanks, that’s the treatment I used, seem to have had plenty of flies this season, fairly smelly/infected just wondered if anyone had a reason for it? Quite a few boys with sores, just not all this big.

Open wound started by fighting and then flies bothering it so he's rubbed it raw like that.
I've got the same with some lambs after flies have been after the ear tags and they've rubbed raw patches on their heads even though they were tagged 5 months ago 🤬.

Zinc or aluminium wound spray is how we treat wounds aggravated by head flies. With a hole that large and smelly I'd add a dose of appropriate antibiotics. As I have the facility and the time I'd put that lamb inside with another for company somewhere that the flies can't bother it till the wound dries up.

He's been using his back foot to rub the black flies off and just making it worse , AB blue spray then stockholm tar . if you use a pour on the flies keep biting and die so he keeps using his foot , tar covers the wound so no flies can bite

☝️This, Alu silver spray is great for wounds. Also a shot of pain killer will make him more comfortable and reduce the self trauma.

1. Spray with Septiclense or apply soothing cream.
2. Flatten a piece sheep's wool.
3. Make a donkey-type headcap with holes for ears - the leg of a stretchy sock is ideal,
4. Put the wool under the headcap.

It will he heal within a week or two.

Do you have any photos of such head gear in use?

It’s par for the course for anyone running any number of rams, especially as they come towards breeding season and hormones get elevated like a gang of teenage lads.

Bit of purple AB spray (remove the scab/crust if there is one) or Backtakil 55, and a ml of Spot On/Spotinor nearby to kill flies. That product spreads over the skin so kills flies as they land, not when on the actual wound.

That’s what I’ve always done (although I’d leave out the AB spray unless it’s infected) and it’s always worked just fine.

Clean thoroughly with warm salty water or surgical spirit. Slather it with Sudocream or other zinc based nappy rash barrier cream. May need to do it for a few days. It keeps the flies from the cut and promotes skin healing. Don’t put Spot On on the cut. Put it on healthy skin away from the site. It’s not a repellent mind, so won’t stop them landing.

Mineral bucket lid with a hole cut in it, slid over his head will take his back foot out of the equation if he’s persistently knocking it.
