Tupping 2017

EVV's a difficult one to make sense of I was at a dispersal sale this summer I saw ewes with 450+ index and ewes with 250 + looking better handling better and definitely heavier, I like the idea but it I don't see working at the moment I hope it does, but it certanly
does not reflect in price of tups keen recording flock tend to go solely on ebvs?
Doesn't matter how keen you are on recording, you can't go solely on ebvs. You need to assess what's in front of you as well plus any (non-ebv) functional traits as well.

Always think whenever someone says when can i do this or that around tupping of dad saying not to do too much with the ewes or rams around tupping time as it will upset them and they wont take but i didnt pay much attention to him. Was putting the harnesses on the rams and putting them with the ewes decided to move them to a better field and footbath them at the same time. All the whiledad protested that it would take a few days for them to settle down and starr taking after all this. Turned the rams into the pens with the ewes as they were fighting each other and turned them out through the bath. 2 rams served 4 ewes in the pen and 2 while going through the footbath and carried on once out of the yard too. Upset them my arse!!

Teasers being dropped off with the March lambing ewes

Rams been in for 2 cycles, out for a cycle and back in yesterday for 1 possibly 2 cycles. Have tipped well this year i think about 80% nabbed so far. Never done it this way before, quite hard to manage but hopefully pays off a lot of cows to calf in Feb so wanted it to be quiet with lambing. Usually never take rams out but will this year, did it with cows last year and was nice knowing when the job was going to be finished

Once the rams are in I don't mess about with them unless I have to. Always thought the first six weeks of pregnancy they just want leaving alone. Will catch the odd lame one if they're in a sensible part of the field and not going to upset the others.

Yes but only 1 to 360 ewes. Actually slightly dreading the busy week - already trying to figure out where i can fit in extra pens...
but I guess they could all return [emoji15]

I really wished I had had time to get some teasers this year but what with Dad and everything that idea went out the window, always next year!

It looks like I have a busy 3rd week with over 50% of the ewes to the rams in that window.

Dont mention the "R" word!

10 tex to Beltex
10 CHM to Meatlinc
10 CHM to Tex
12 NCC park to NCC park

All sponged then tupped in 48hrs - Lamb indoors 1st week of March.

Hill sheep to be teased and run with Beltex, texel and a few tup lambs for Mid April lambing.

having a daft thought but would a buck goat act the same as a teaser for ewes?

not a bad idea apart from keeping him in the other 11 months/yr:D:D

well done, did you tease?

i'm trying that this year....everyday i go up to my tups and say something like 'call yourself rams? there's more masculine wethers in the fat shed'........can't see the science but i'm giving it a go:scratchhead:
