That was my thinking last year. Having had lambs born late May (and one in June!), all poor doers due to being weaned early, I think I'd rather have an empty ewe than a scrawny, scouring little thing that's not much use to anyone.

I think with later born lambs , you have to treat them like earlies , i unintentionally lambed some ewe lambs in june , i fed hoggs untill lambs on creep , and kept the creep feeder full , they didnt eat a lot but enough , and i weaned them at 100 days , they are killing weight now and look very well , and the hoggs recovered well , unfed i think they would have been all carp inc mothers .

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
