Have a look at the cab on this heap of junk.......with such easy access to the cab through the doors :LOL::LOL: the easiest way to get into this heap of sh!t was to scramble over the seat.

It's the only tractor I know that was designed looking into a mirror, with such a logical layout to throttle and levers, and a user friendly PUH.

My nomination for most impractical tractor ever made.

But...when you pulled the dipstick out, the oil was always black

compared to the competition of that time, what else had a 12 speed synchromesh gearbox, dual speed pto with an independant hand operated clutch, could be converted to high clearance in a few hours, and didnt need half the national grid to start it on a cold morning

That rules most other brands out, ford had 8 speeds, so did MF unless you went for the flat land multipower, single speed pto on both of those too....pretty basic spec

Who cares. Nowadays it's much better with aircon, finger tip controls and suspension.

Jeepers don't tempt fate
Strangely enough though you'd be amazed at the number of times I get out of social situations I don't like by having to attend to a calving cow ;)
One of the few advantages of all year round calving

In reality the only machine being used on xmas day will be the forklift. If that won't work there's always the tractor loader.

Please dear old chap, do point out where I referred to a 1594 having straight cut gears? I don't seem to recall saying that. I did of course make reference to the 1594's diff being made of cheese, maybe that has confused you?
I must be fairly unique to you two fighting on here. The best tractor i ever worked was a Ford7700,i ve still got it but needs refurbished. Also have 8210 and TW15,both working. My main loader tractor from the 90s and 00s was a DB 1212 hydra,2 wheel drive.Still got that aswell but needs fixing. Ive also got a ...............DB/CASE 1594 commerative E reg 4 wheel drive. Its ok but needs work done to it,lift arms stopped at the moment. Fords are much simpler tractors. Can remember once the DB1212 main gear lever snapped off just under the cab when i was right in the middle of the cows with a round bale of straw on front for bedding. That was a right bugger!

Any pics of your Fords?

The Ford 550 digger was based around a Ford 4600, it had a speedo as it could reach 27mph (given time!) and could push for England with a manual gearbox... even though it was double the weight of its tractor cousin... JCB had to up their game when it came out.
When we got our first Ford 550. (R reg) we could run rings round a JCB. They were well liked on sites as they were very manoeuvrable and fast. Perhaps did not sit too well on a hard dig but were very nice to operate back then in the 1970s.

I learnt to drive a digger on a 4 lever Ford 4550. Now that was a cab you could hold a party in! Two seats, one forward facing almost too low to see over the steering wheel, and a five minute walk to the back of the cab where the digger arm had it's own seat.
Pretty good idea when you got stuck though, one person driving the wheels, and someone else in the back seat pushing with the backhoe.

I remember 1 Christmas day the chain and flight elevator bust on our Alvan Blanch Mill and Mixer. That certainly "Ruined our Christmas" having to empty that sod out by hand and mend the bugger again before feeding up time that night!
