Using a mobile phone for livestock apps

How is everybody getting on using their mobile outdoors recording information on livestock apps. I was using my psion in the rain the other day but couldn’t use the phone to call with out drying it first even though it is glove sensitive.
Just run over my phone so need to replace it and wondering if I need a bigger screen if I was to run a cloud based app. No sign of the new Shearwell software so thinking of jumping ship.

much more waterproof/dustproof/dropproof than a phone is a ( non touch screen) Agrident reader and uploading to FMatters works well ime.
'non wand or stick' ones fit in your pocket as well.

In my opinion ( for what it’s worth ) people are either purely App users or Office / App users. Domes people like the mobility and quick processing while one the move where as others prefer to take time in the office to consider , analyse and manage at a PC. Each to their own I guess so what ever best for farmer. We like a more traditional approach of main Farm Matters PC software with additional Web App data capabilities while out and about. Either way I am always happy to chat. We can also import data from other software providers as part of your trial. All the best for now

A phone wont read a tag.
My Agrident Apr 600 will .
it will also fit in my pocket , glove compartment , safely behind seat or compartment in tractor unlike a stick reader. . will record all that's necessary , not with the speed of a phone but long battery life and will be fine in the rain and will cope with being dropped as i do . in comparison the phones i drop crack their screens .

This reliance on phones/apps to do everything is a bit of a vulnerable thing ime. and very expensive too if your into apple stuff.

my phone is a 60 quid nokia. and doesnt need obsessive charging all the time.

Phones not easy to read in sunlight. Not good in rain. Struggle to retain battery fur a full day especially if linked via BT. Drop a £1000 iPhone in the muck and you'll not be in best form. While a pocket reader is robust. Battery lasts for days. Costs less than top of the range phone. Can have an extension clipped on to become a stick. Decent iP rating easy to read in both bright sunlight and dark conditions. Browse through animal data on the pocket reader screen. Set alerts for drafting sheep .......
