Vacuum tanker pump oil, is this normal?

Using our brand new Hi-Spec tanker today and noticed oil coming out onto the drawbar like in the following pics, our old tanker was a 24 year old NC vacuum and while it still works great it leaks oil like a sieve so we just keep topping it up each day. Understandable at that age and it's never had a spanner on it.

Is this normal on the first day of its life??

Where is the oil coming from? It is new and clean, so it should be fairly obvious. If it is coming from the exhaust, then the two oilers need adjusting badly. You should see the drips through the viewing windows on the oiler and the oiler should be empty with a single drip falling from the top every seven to ten seconds

As said above, some oil residue from the exhaust is normal but should be a sweet rather than the pool you have.
If it's coming from somewhere other than the exhaust then stop using immediately as it will be gearbox oil.

Thanks for the reply, will have a proper look at it tomorrow when I get a minute but there is a sticker on the tank saying that they need to be 1 drop per second, which is roughly what they seem to be set at as I was watching them before...

Far too much oil. The windows must fill up with oil with you. They should clear oil easily before the next drip drops.
I've been using these things for probably 35 years on tankers and have had no problem and I use super-universal or engine oil exclusively.

I've just had new vacuum pumps delivered for the milking machine. Believe me if they consumed a drop a second they would use gallons of oil every year and there would be a hell of an oily mess. They don't and have lasted since 1979 with only a couple of vane changes. The reserve is now getting to the point that they need changing due to general wear.

They have only done some 70,000 to 80,000 hours each of running.

Also worth slackening off the bolts that clamp the exhaust pipe and turning it 180 degrees so it blows the other side. A lot nicer to use without it blasting you with air and also a little quieter. Those jurop pumps make a fair racket. Looking at your pictures it looks very much like the gearbox on the front of the pump is leaking. As others have said, get the dealer to get it sorted asap as you don't want to seize it!

The bulk of the oil seems to be at the rear of the pump, so i=has it been filled too full and blowing it out the oil filler? Could just be running forward which makes it look like the gearbox seal at the front.

It's a noisy bugger when it's on suction that's for sure, runs lovely and quiet on spread though. Much quieter than the NC ever was, it squeals! 330 on the PTO seems to be a good spreading speed.

I will check tomorrow if it's just run forwards from the back, and also check the levels in the morning before calling the dealer.

Will be noisier on suction as the 'noise' is heading out. On pressure, the 'noise' is heading into the tanker.

This was the case on a new Abbey we got this spring. Thought it was the seal at first too but it has stopped now it has used some.

It would be a pretty poor job if it's been filled too full from new or at PDI... But this would be the easiest cure rather than it needing new seals etc already
