Vaderstad Rexius & Bio drill

Im currently looking at different options to update our current roller and drill set up which we use primarily for drilling grass seed down for permanent pasture as well as small seeds for green feed winter crops. Does anyone use a larger roller roughly 10 - 12 metres with a bio drill for grass seed? We currently run a bio drill in combination with a 6m spirit drill for grass and have been extremely pleased with it performance, but i am unsure how successful it would be at achieving consistent distribution at higher drilling rates over the larger widths. Cheers

@phil has a setup like this on a 1225 Carrier.

If you have the full width large metering unit part number 154353 it should cope. The standard grass seed metering unit is part number 160822. What is your seed rate and forward speed?

Thanks for the reply, the ground speed can change a lot depending on how stoney the ground we are working on but typically around the 8-10kph mark. The seeding rate is usually between 18-30kg/ha typically 25kg most of the time.
At the moment we are running an APV unit on a 6m roller which unfortunately hasn't been reliable at all, and when most of the drilling we are doing is for permanent grass pasture for dairy cows we need to be confident that the seed is where it's supposed to be!

I have put out 30-40kg/ha through a biodrill at 12 metres wide, no problem. watch valleys in the pipes

I have only sowed one grass field with it and I will post a picture, perfection. I was only admiring it the other day

you'll have no issues what so ever

What kind of problems are you having with the Apv seeder? We're looking for a new roller with Apv seeder unit, any tips or tricks? Or should we forget the whole thing?

Our unit was aftermarket fitted by the dealer to a roller we already owned and from day one we have had a number of problems with the feeder turning off randomly and also the hydraulic fan system would always fluctuate hugely until we replaced the valve block from an open centre to a closed centre one. The dealer support was probably more to blame as they would just blame the tractors we used being the issue rather than apv ( we had case, JD and deutz) We also changed the o ring driven agitator to a chain as this would stall and the hopper would bridge.
Several other guys around us use apv units factory fitted with no issues so ours could have just been a lemon from the beginning.

The wiring on APV leaves a lot to be desired, I have one on a drill and the electric fan runs through the box and plugs heat up,

ideally the fan needs to wired direct to battery and tell box its hydraulic

In front of roller, trick with carrier is don't go too fast
You will bury seed with soil throw from discs
Only did one field for a farmer, surprised how well it worked out
Gave it one run on stubble first then sowed 2nd time
Land was min till so was level anyway
No paddles on 12.25 carrier so levelling minimal

Biodrill is a great piece of kit
