value of wholecrop

Depends on so many things . How good a crop is it, local demand etc.
Fairest way is to sell by pence per ton of dry matter . Means weighing every load though .

I think you meant £/t not pence! Fresh weight would be easier to measure too. It needs to be at least £30/t fresh weight in my opinion. AHDB will have tables for the typical DM and analyses of wholecrop too. You can use the DM of the wholecrop to work out the equivalent of mature crop at 85% DM for both straw and grain. Consider the costs of harvesting, carting and storage for both silage and combining, along with opportunity savings for early entry into the field, weed seeds removed etc.

We done some of the maize at 90 p per ton of DM. So it balances out as dry matter increases but fresh weight decreases . Ours was 39% DM last year in the drought , which compensated for lower yield.
18 ton acre@ 35% x90p would give you £567 acre. That’s with the purchaser paying for all harvesting costs

Where and when did you measure the dry matter? It's a fair way of measuring the yield.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
