Hi has anyone got a valve seat cutter that I could loan, buy or bring the head to you. I thought I could buy a single cutter in the UK but it seems nowhere in the UK stocks cheap cutters.....

Did you consider E-Bay?
Yeah but all of the UK based ones are kits starting at 150 ish upwards
Individual cheap cutters are about 25 upwards but all of them come from India and could take a few weeks to deliver.

Both valves are 45 degree. One 44mm and the other 37mm.

Thanks I Keep you in mind. New problem is the guides are knackered but sparex replacements are on back order with malpas. Been looking at other makes but can't find the right ones. I can easily adapt them as long as certain dimensions met.
Length - 48mm possibly 50mm
OD - 14mm
ID - 8.00mm ( I could ream smaller ones)

I could put the groove in....

Personally , I would spend your money on getting a professional engine rebuild outfit to overhaul your head , professionally.

That defeats the purpose lol. No fun or stress lol. To be fair if this was our bigger tractor I would but this is a 1971 Universal UTB 550 only 55HP. I already blew our budget getting the sleeves bored out and the new liners pressed in at Pheonix Rebores. The head itself is fine. Just need the seats recutting. My father in-law is a professional I guess who is assisting me as he worked for Ford tooling for 30yrs and has most of the kit need but we just don't have a cutter the right size. The rest is basic valve guides pressed, reamed and lapping in new valves. The last engine I rebuilt is still going some I'm getting there...

I am a professional engine re-builder that is why i am trying to help out. I will have a look tomorrow to see if i have any guides like that in stock as i have a few. Are you 100% sure they are metric?

I totally appreciate the help

I'm never 100% with this Romanian tractor...I keep finding a strange blend of metric and imperial on this machine....

Guide Measurements

The length is difficult to know for sure as the old ones were clearly hammered in squashing the ends. They measured 48 so assumed 50 before the abuse.

The outside of two guides measured exactly 14.0mm with the micrometre in several places. Typical imperial measurements don't tally up with this.

According to the manual the valve stems are 0.314-0.315in which is 5/16ish I think. It's says guides should be reamed but within 0.315-0.316 range it misquotes the metric conversions slightly....

The fiat 550 is supposed to be the same engine. Vapormatic stock guides VPA2130 with no groove(on the picture) on carpenter Goodwin website they give measurement for most except VPA 2130 get. Considering buying cast and making them on the lathe lol

Brilliant thanks.
Ended up that a local firm have given me a great price for cutting the valve seats and reaming the new guides. Cheaper than buying the cutters so all good.

Can't wait till get this old machine back together.
